Diffuse portomesenteric vein thrombosis. The diagnosis was made on abdominal CT scan (b, arrowheads). At laparotomy, a 110-cm segment of jejunum was resected. Although the patient had no personal or family history of thromboembolic disorders, she started taking oral contraceptives 1 month before the admission. A thrombophilia screen was negative. She recovered well from surgery and was discharged on long-term anticoagulation.
