A 74-year-old man presented with chronic diarrhoea and worsening central abdominal pain. CT demonstrated ileocaecal intussusception with no lead point. The patient underwent a right hemicolectomy. There was a 3-cm length of ileocaecal intussusception with multiple subcentimetre nodules along the terminal ileum. The cause was nodular lymphoid hyperplasia (NLH). The patient’s stool cultures grew Salmonella paratyphi B. Conditions associated with NLH include immunodeficiency syndromes, infection such as with human immunodificiency virus, giardiasis and Helicobacter pylori infection, coeliac disease, familial adenomatous polyposis and Gardner syndrome.
