This is a de Garengeot hernia – appendix in a femoral hernia. In this patient, histological examination confirmed chronic appendicitis. The incidence of acute appendicitis within a de Garengeot hernia is 0⋅08–0⋅13 per cent (1). Appendiceal diverticulum or carcinoma is even more rare (2,3).
