Gastric linitis plastica (LP), a malignant, diffuse, infiltrative gastric adenocarcinoma. It accounts for 10 per cent of all gastric cancers and affects predominantly individuals of Asian origin. If often affects women under 40 years of age. It may present with nonspecific symptoms such as satiety, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, weight loss, dyspepsia and dysphagia. LP has often metastasized by the time of presentation, so it has poor prognosis. Lymphoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis as well as benign diseases such as lymphoid hyperplasia and amyloidosis. Diagnosis requires a multifaceted approach including endoscopic and radiologic studies. The greatest survival benefit is derived from multimodal treatment. A total gastrectomy is performed for localized disease (1).
