The diagnosis is a superficial spreading melanoma. This is the most common melanoma subtype, which can sometimes be difficult to differentiate from other lesions. The best form of management is excision biopsy. In this patient a careful excision biopsy was undertaken, ensuring that the defibrillator leads were protected.
