Conclusion

Five of the initial 56 patients that had embolisation did not proceed to surgery. Surgery took longer in those that had preoperative chemoembolisation (176 vs. 149 min, P=0.042). After a median of 57 months, outcomes were similar in both the treatment and control groups: disease-free survival 13 vs. 9 per cent, and survival 31 vs. 21 per cent, respectively.
