A randomized clinical trial evaluating the efficacy and quality of life of antibiotic-only treatment of acute uncomplicated appendicitis. Results of the COMMA Trial. Ann Surg 2021; 274: 240-247.

Conclusion

In this trial that included 186 randomized patients, 25.3 per cent of the antibiotic group had recurrent appendicitis within one year. Quality of life after three months and one year were better in the surgery group (both P<0.001). Total costs were higher in the surgery group.
