Conclusion

Some 361 patients with a healed ulcer were included. After five years, recurrent ulceration occurred in 29 per cent of patients given class 3 stockings and 60 per cent for class 2 stockings (P<0.001). Respective rates of non-compliance were 10.2 and 6.2 per cent.
