Conclusion

Adjuvant chemotherapy improved recurrence-free survival (hazard ratio 0.83, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.69 to 0.99), but not overall survival (0.84, 0.65 to 1.08). Subgroup analysis gave similar results for patients with positive lymph nodes, and an involved resection margin.
