Conclusion

Some 121 patients in ITU were randomized to routine care, or to a new care bundle, where treatment was triggered by a urinary biomarker. In the group predicted at high risk, acute kidney injury was less common in the intervention group: 27.1 versus 48 per cent, P=0.03. ITU and hospital stay were also reduced (P=0.04).
