Conclusion

The trial was stopped when celecoxib was withdrawn, but patients continued to be randomized to selenium versus placebo. In patients who had colonoscopy within a year of stopping celecoxib, recurrence of adenomas was reduced: relative risk 0.69, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.48 to 0.98, P=0.04.
