Conclusion

The analysis included 61 studies involving 5,921 procedures. Patients who had prehabilitation before major abdominal surgery had reduced rates of overall complications (odds ratio 0.61, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.43 to 0.86, P=0.005), pulmonary complications (0.41, 0.25 to 0.67) and cardiac complications (0.46, 0.22 to 0.96).
