Early parathyroidectomy increases bone mineral density in patients with mild primary hyperparathyroidism: a prospective and randomized study. Surgery 2004; 136: 1281-1288.

Conclusion

Fifty subjects were randomized to immediate surgery or surgery delayed by one year. Follow-up after two years showed that parathyroidectomy improved all biochemical markers in both groups, but hip bone marrow density was only increased in the early operation group (P<0.05).
