Conclusion
Some 208 patients were randomized to early nasogastric feeding, or oral diet 72h after presentation (tolerated by 69 per cent of those allocated). The rates of death or major infection up to six months after randomization were similar in the groups: 30 percent tube feeding, 27 per cent early oral feeding.
