Conclusion

Some 2073 women were randomized to a treatment schedule before surgery; 526 had involved axillary nodes and were then treated according to randomization. After a mean of 97 months, axillary recurrence was 2 per cent after surgery and 1.7 per cent after radiotherapy. Disease-free and overall survival rates were similar.
