Conclusion

Ninety-eight patients were randomly assigned to endoscopic drainage followed by endoscopic necrosectomy if indicated, or percutaneous drainage followed by video-assisted retroperitoneal debridement. Rates of death or major complication within six months were similar: 43 versus 45 per cent, respectively; P=0.5. Mortality rates were similar.
