Conclusion

This study included 2135 women followed for a median of 8.6 years. Ipsilateral breast cancer recurrence occurred in 3 per cent of women after partial radiotherapy, compared to 2.8 per cent who had whole breast radiotherapy: hazard ratio 1.27, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.84 to 1.91. Toxicity was less after partial radiation, but so was adverse cosmesis.
