Conclusion

Haemorrhoidal artery ligation was more painful postoperatively (P=0.0002) in this study that included 372 patients. After one year, recurrence was more common after rubber band ligation (30 versus 49 per cent, P= 0.0005), mainly because more patients who had banding required a further procedure (32 versus 14 per cent).
