Conclusion

The stapled anastomosis was a mean of 15 min quicker in this study that included 337 procedures. The rate of anastomotic leak was similar (3 per cent stapled, 1.8 per cent sutured), as was the rate of postoperative bowel obstruction (10.3 versus 16.6 per cent, respectively, P=0.1).
