Conclusion

Some 130 stable patients were included. At 12 months, stoma-free survival was better after primary anastomosis (94.6 per cent) than Hartmann’s procedure (71.7 per cent); P<0.0001. Respective morbidity rates were similar: 39 versus 44 per cent; P=0.44.
