Conclusion
After spontaneous cessation of bleeding, 54 patients with diverticular disease were randomly allocated high-dose barium impaction therapy. Over the next twelve months, this significantly reduced the rate of rebleeding (14.8 versus 42.5 per cent, P=0.04), and episodes of readmission to hospital (1.2 versus 1.7, P<0.05).
