Conclusion

The use of hyperbaric oxygen did not improve the limb salvage in this study of 120 patients (risk difference 10 per cent, 95% confidence interval -4 to 23 per cent) or amputation-free survival (AFS): 3 per cent, 14 to 21 per cent. Some 35 per cent of patients randomized to hyperbaric oxygen did not complete the protocol; those who did had higher AFS.
