Conclusion

All patients had compression stockings for six months, after which they were randomized to continue them for a further 18 months, or indivdualised compression according to severity of signs and symptoms. At two years, rates of postthrombotic syndrome were similar in the standard (28 per cent) and individualized groups (29 per cent).
