This study reported cosmetic outcomes after use of intra-operative ultrasound reduced the rate of margin involvement from 13 to 3.1 per cent in this study that included 134 women. Poor cosmetic outcome was more common if ultrasound was not used (21 vs 11 per cent), but was mainly attributable to the increased number of mastectomies in that group.
