Conclusion

There were three randomized trials that included 307 patients. The rate of reintervention 30 days postoperatively was higher after laparoscopic lavage (28.3 versus 8.8 per cent; relative risk 3.01, 95 per cent confidence interval 1.15 to 7.9), but 90 day mortality and stoma rates were similar.
