Conclusion

Some 33 RCTs involving 2457 patients were analyzed. Roux-en-Y bypass resulted in greater loss of body mass (mean difference 1.25Kg, P=0.001), which persisted to three years. It also was more likely to resolve dyslipidaemia after one year (P<0.001), but effects on diabetes and hypertension were similar.
