Conclusion

The mesh procedure took 5min longer in this study that included 352 procedures. Complication rates were similar, but early reoperation was needed less often after mesh: none versus 2.8 per cent, P=0.027. Hernia recurrence rates were similar: mesh 3.3 versus patch 7.8 per cent, P=0.08.
