Conclusion

The original study included 50 children. After at least five years, there were no failures in the appendicectomy group. Eleven of 24 children in the non-operative group had appendicectomy, nine within a year of randomization (only two had histological appendicitis). Two further children had appendicectomy with proven histology between one and five years.
