Conclusion

Fifty children were enrolled. Of 24 randomized to non operative therapy, two required early surgery, and a third had appendicectomy for recurrent appendicitis at nine months. Within 12 months, a further six children had appendicectomy for recurrent pain or parental preference, but all these appendices were normal on histology.
