Conclusion

In this study that included 400 patients, a quarter of those randomized to the longer course of imatinib failed to complete the treatment. Overall five year survival was improved in the three year group from 81.7 to 92 per cent, hazard ratio 0.45, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.22 to 0.89, P=0.02.
