Conclusion

The study included ten trials that randomized 469 patients. Peritoneal lavage had no effect on mortality (relative risk 0.82, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.32 to 1.79, P=0.69), or complications (1.33, 0.99 to 2.12, P=0.06).
