Conclusion

This pilot trial included 100 children. Use of iodine lavage reduced the risk of intra-abdominal abscess from 16 to 12 per cent (relative risk 0.72, 95 per cent credible interval 0.39 to 1.23). Bayesian analysis estimated an 89 per cent probability that iodine lavage is effective.
