Conclusion

In this study that included 487 participants, intravenous iron given 10-42 days before surgery did not reduced the need for perioperative blood transfusion (105 in the iron group and 111 in controls), or the composite end point of death/transfusion: risk ratio 1.03, 95 per cent c.i. 0.78 to 1.37, P=0.84.
