Conclusion
A total of 115 procedures were included, mostly urgent colorectal resections. Surgical site infection was more common after mesh repair (20.6 versus 7.7 per cent, P=0.05), but mesh prevented subsequent fascial dehiscence for up to 30 days (none versus seven [13.5 per cent], P=0.003).
