Conclusion

There were four RCTs including a total of 388 procedures. Prophylactic mesh placement reduced the risk of incisional hernia (relative risk 0.27, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.11 to 0.66) but not reoperation (0.23, 0.11 to 1.05).
