Conclusion

Some 423 of the original 530 patients randomized were available for telephone follow-up. Of 206 initially given antibiotics, 39% later underwent appendicectomy. Quality-of-life was similar in both groups, but patients who had initial appendicectomy more likely to be satisfied with their treatment.
