Randomized clinical trial comparing scan-directed unilateral versus bilateral cervical exploration for primary hyperparathyroidism due to solitary adenoma. Br J Surg 2006; 93: 418¿421.

Conclusion

A total of 100/190 patients with hyperparathyroidism were suitable for randomizaton. All 100 patients became normocalcaemic postoperatively. Two patients who had bilateral exploration had unexpected adenomas on the contralateral side.
