Conclusion

The study originally included 144 patients; 138 were available for analysis after five years. Gastro-oesophageal reflux was controlled equivalently and effectively by the two methods, but more patients complained of dysphagia five years after the Nissen procedure: 15 vs. 2.8 per cent, P<0.001
