Conclusion

Some 583 patients were included. Successful treatment (defined as discharged without surgery and no recurrent appendicitis within one year) was recorded in 70.2 per cent after oral antibiotics and 73.8 per cent after intravenous antibiotics first (P=0.26 for non-inferiority).
