Conclusion

In this analysis that included 14 RCTs and 2684 patients, a plastic wound protector reduced the risk of surgical site infection: pooled risk ratio 0.7, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.51 to 0.96. There was a trend towards greater benefit from a dual ring protector.
