Conclusion

There were 16 trials that included 1387 patients. Immune nutrition reduced infectious complications (odds ratio 0.52, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.38 to 0.71, P<0.0001), and duration of hospital stay (-1.57 days, 12.48 to -0.66, P=0.0007). It did not affect non-infectious complications or mortality.
