Conclusion

Haemorrhoidal artery ligation took longer (44 versus 30 min, P<0.001) but was less painful and recovery was quicker in this study that included 393 procedures. It was more expensive; total one year costs were 2806 versus 2538 euros for the stapled procedure, and had a higher reoperation rate: 8 versus 4 per cent.
