Five-year follow-up of a randomized, controlled trial comparing saphenofemoral ligation and stripping of the great saphenous vein with endovenous laser ablation (980 nm) using local tumescent anesthesia. J Vasc Surg 2016; 63: 420-428.

Conclusion

Some 121 patients (130 legs) were included. There was no significant difference in the rate of symptom improvement, or the proportion with visible recurrent veins at five years. More patients who had laser treatment had visible recurrent veins originating from the groin: 33 versus 17 per cent, P<0.04.
