Conclusion

A total of 124 patients were randomized to application of a fibrin sealant patch to the pancreatico-enteric anastomosis or controls. The patch failed to reduce the risk of postoperative pancreatic fistula which occurred in 25.8 per cent in the intervention, and 37.1 per cent in the control groups. Total complications and duration of hospital stay were similar in both groups.
