Conclusion

The laparoscopic approach was safe and effective in this study that included 656 procedures. Modified intention to treat analysis suggested patients who had laparoscopic surgery had a shorter length of hospital stay (15 vs 16 days, P=0.02), but rates of morbidity and mortality up to 90 days were similar.
