Conclusion

There were five studies that included 3901 procedures. The risks of major stroke, death, ipsilateral stroke and MI were similar, but the risk of any stroke was lower after surgery: odds ratio 0.53, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.29 to 0.96. The difference was due to a higher rate of minor periprocedural strokes during stenting.
