Conclusion

Some 86 patients with symptoms for over 72 h were included. Compared with delayed operation, early laparoscopic cholecystectomy was associated with reduced morbidity (14 versus 39 per cent, P=0.015) and shorter total hospital stay (4 versus 9 days, P<0.001).
