Conclusion

The authors included 21 RCTs involving 4576 hernia repairs. There was no difference in hernia recurrence rates (risk ratio 1.22, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.76 to 1.96) or severe pain (0.73, 0.38 to 1.41). Lightweight mesh reduced any pain after surgery, and the feeling of a foreign body.
