Conclusion

In this study that included 395 patients, use of a drain did not affect reintervention rates (21.3 versus 16.6 per cent without a drain) or in hospital mortality (3 versus 3.1 per cent respectively), and it increased the risk of pancreatic fistula: 11.9 versus 5.7 per cent, P=0.03.
