Conclusion

There were seven randomized trial that included 432 patients. Use of mesh reduced the rate of clinically apparent parastomal hernia from 32.4 to 10.8 per cent (risk ratio 0.34, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.18 to 0.65, P=0.001) without increasing the risk of complications.
